As if the Apple Smart cover wasn’t awesome enough, innovative new alternatives to Apple’s protective cover for the iPad 2 have started to surface. Miniot, a Dutch company have created an iPad 2 cover made from a single piece of wood. Not only does this cover look amazing but it’s also very useful. Just like the Apple Smart Cover, it uses magnets to hold itself on the device and will awaken or put the iPad to sleep when the case is opened or closed.
The main difference from the Apple Smart Cover is how it folds. The Miniot Cover folds into a cylinder and acts as a three-way stand allowing you to use your iPad in portrait mode as well as landscape and keyboard mode. This makes it perfect for reading or using your iPad as a picture frame.
The case is on now on sale on Miniot’s website and will run you about $70, about the same price as Apple’s leather case.
